The Beginning

Yuki walked through the trees leading to the bright building that she was soon to be living in. She could see it now, a very large school building surrounded by clear grassy fields. All of the students rooms were inside a special half of the building, and some students had to share rooms, she had read in the brochure for the school that had been sent to her in the mail. She wondered if she would have a roommate, and if so, what kind of powers would they have?

Erik entered his room, He was covered in mud and soaking wet. not to mention his nose was broken. "What a way to start the first day of school! and better yet, I don't have any powers, I don't get why my parents put me here in the first place..Just calm down Erik.." He breathed. "Let's see. What do I have?" He asked him self opening his bag of stuff his mom gave him, that she said was specially packed for the school. He questioned why it was so small. When he opened it a black cat jumped out on top of him. "Gah!" Erik almost fell backwards but caught himself. "Mice! What are you doing here?!" Erik asked. "Not much, mom wanted me to watch you, by the way, your clothes STINK!" Mice, the black cat replied. Mice was no ordinary cat, he once lived as a average cat for a witch over 300 years ago, but the witch cursed him, making it so he would live forever and be able to talk. "Nice place. Any idea who your room mate is?" Mice asked. "Nope not at all." Erik replied.

Yuki knocked on the door that had the number assigned to her painted on it. If her roommate was in it, it would be rude to just barge in. The hand she held the paper in began to shake. She was nervous about this school. Would she be kicked out of this one, too?

Erik looked at the door. "I wonder if that's my room mate..Or maybe it's that jerk that beat me up." Erik breathed. He walked slowly over to the door and opened it. "Uh Hi.. No one followed you here right? No one holding bats?" Erik asked peeking around the corners.

"Umm, no. I don't think so." Yuki tipped her head to the side, her blueish hair shimmered with the bright light of her new home.

"Okay, good..Er, I'm Erik, Erik Grass. You are?" Erik asked still a little shakey. Mice walked up to the girl and smelled her, gave a hiss and hid in Erik's bag. "Sorry, Mice is really all that friendly to strangers." Erik added.

"It's fine." Yuki smiled. "My name is Yuki. It means snow."

"Well nice to meet you Yuki." Erik said calmly. "is that girl gone yet?" Mice peeked out from Erik's bag.

"Nope, I'm still here Mice." Yuki thought for a second. "Oh! Do you like fish?" she asked the cat.

"Yes, Yes I do." Mice came out and sat down. Erik stared at the two, slightly amazed she wasn't bothered by the talking cat.

"Well, I do too." she set her backpack down and rummaged through it. "Let's see . . . tuna, salmon, crab, octopus, shrimp . . . . You take your pick. It's the least I can do to repay you for letting me share a room with you." she smiled at the cat.

Mice grabbed some tuna and went back into Erik's bag. "So your my room mate then?" Erik asked.

"Yeah, I guess I am." she studied her roommate a little. "I can't seem to guess what your power is. What species are you?"

"Human, and I don't have any powers, only reason I'm here is cause my parents put me here. What species are you?" Erik asked, starting to put his stuff away.

Yuki didn't reply for a bit. "I'm a Yuki-onna." she replied quietly. "You know what that is, right?"

"Er, No I don't what's a Yuki-onna?" Erik asked. Mice gave out a little hiss and hid in Erik's bag.

Yuki's blue hair flew up behind her. Suddenly, there was a sound like shattered glass and a fly that was buzzing around the room fell to the ground, encased in ice. "I can control ice, snow, and cold water."

"Wow." Erik replied wide eyed. "And us who are closely related to witches and creatures of the night quite despise them." Mice said calmly.

Yuki frowned at Mice. "I'm not with them. I ran away years ago." she paused and sighed. "I'm really sorry you have to share a room with a Yuki-onna."

Erik just stayed silent. "What the heck are they talking about.." Erik thought. "Unlike mice, I have no problem with you being here." Erik said calmly.

Yuki smiled. "Really? That's so nice of you!" she picked uup her bag so that she could unpack. "You're my first friend."

Erik didn't reply. "How old are you anyways?" Erik asked. "I'm 16." Erik added.

"I'm fifteen, what grade are you in?" Yuki asked.

"Grade 10." Erik said calmly sitting down. "I still don't get why I was brought here by my parents, they said I was very special, I never got to ask them why though." Erik added.

"I hope you find your powers soon," Yuki said suddenly. "Without them, you won't be able to survive this school."
